Earlier this month, Brandt Martinek defied the odds of those who live with autism.

Although the autism spectrum is far and wide, Martinek is very much high functioning and nothing should or can be taken away from the first-year wrestler.

Facing off in his first wrestling match of his young career, Martinek earned a victory and pin against McGavock High School; defying those who never believed in the freshman from Hendersonville.

“Everyone cheered for me and that was really good,” Martinek said of the victory. “It was so awesome, I never gave up.”
